Mr Bonga Evert Ntazi was born on 11 October 1961 at Kwa Swayimana near Pietermaritzburg. He is married with five children. He matriculated at Swayimana High School. After working as an accounts clerk for the then Chief Minister’s Department he went to the University of Zululand where he obtained a Teacher’s Diploma and a degree in Teaching. He later obtained a BA Honours degree with the then University of Natal 1- Howard College. He started his teaching career at King Bhekuzulu College in Nongoma 1988 where he consistently got 100% pass rates in his subject - English for matric pupils. In 1992 he was promoted to Deputy Principal of Ivuna High School also in Nongoma. He later became a principal in a number of schools, the last one being King Bhekuzulu College where he had started his teaching career. He joined the head office of the then Department of Education and Culture in Ulundi as a Senior Deputy Chief Education Specialist responsible for Arts and Culture. He rose through the management ranks from Director, Chief Director to Acting DDG in the Cultural Affairs Branch. In 2004 the department of Education and Culture was disentangled into 3 different departments, viz : Education, Arts, Culture and Tourism and Department of Sport and Recreation. He was appointed by the Premier to lead the establishment of the new Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism as Acting Head of Department under MEC Narend Singh. In 2005 he was appointed to that position which he held until February 2007. His vision for this municipality is to get everyone in the employ of the municipality to understand and appreciate that despite the many departments and units, we are a team with ONE purpose - serving the people of Newcastle. Integration and co-ordination for our activities are key factors. He believes in a transparent corruption-free administration where clean governance is a norm. He will prioritise the establishment of a culture of effective and friendly customer service. People who come to our offices for any service must leave with a positive sense that they have been treated with respect and friendliness. In any case, they are the bosses and should indeed come first in the spirit of "Batho Pele". "I believe happy employees are productive employees. Therefore I will strive to ensure all employees of the municipality are working in a friendly environment where they can attain excellence in what they do."

Emuva kwalokho wabe eseba nguthishaNhloko ezikoleni eziningi ezahlukene, esokugcina okwaba iKing Bhekuzulu College lapho ayeqale khona ukufundisa. Ube esejoyina ihovisi lekoMkhulu lezeMfundo naMasiko oLundi njenge Senior Deputy Education Specialist ebhekelele ezoBuciko namaSiko. Wathuthuka ezikhundleni zokuphatha kusukela kuMqondisi, uMqondisi oMkhulu kuya ku DDG obambe okwesikhashana ngaphansi kwegatsha eliqondene nezamaSiko. Ngonyaka ka 2004 uMnyango wezeMfundo wahlukaniswa waba iminyango emithathu okuyilena: ezeMfundo, ezoBuciko ezamaSiko kanye nokuVakasha kanye noMnyango wezeMidlalo nokuzithokozisa. Wakhethwa nguNdunankulu wesifunda ukuba ahole ukuqanjwa koMnyango omusha wezoBuciko, amaSiko kanye nokuvakasha njengoyibamba leNhloko yoMnyango ngaphansi kukaNgqonqoshe uNarend Singh. Ngo 2005 waqokelwa esikhundleni asibambe kwaze kwaba nguNhlolanja 2007. Umbono wakhe ngaloMasipala kuwukuba wonke umsebenzi kaMasipala aqonde futhi amukele ukuthi nakuba kuneminyango eminingi eyahlukene kanye nezigaba, kodwa siyiqembu elinomgomo "OWODWA" . ukusebenzela umphakathi waseNewcastle.Ukuhlanganisa nokusebenzisana kukho konke esikwenzayo yikhona okubaluleke kakhulu. Ukholelwa ekubekeni konke obala, ukuphatha okungenabugebengu lapho ukuhola okuhlanzekile kuyisiko. Uzakuqinisa ekuqaleni ngokuthi amakhasimende asheshe asizakale futhi aphatheke ngendlela enobuntu nobungani.
